Bruno Pauletto, Tennessee’s first strength coach, was given the Lifetime Achievement Award this month by the National Strength and Conditioning Association at its annual conference in Las Vegas.
Pauletto was UT’s strength coach from 1981-93 before leaving to devote more time to his company Power Systems Inc., which he started with his wife Julie in 1986.
UT’s first strength coach served as the shot put coach for the Vol track team from 1979-80 while he earned his master of science in exercise physiology.
Pauletto was born in Portogruaro, Italy, but was a naturalized citizen of Canada. He was a member of Canada’s Olympic teams in 1980 and 1984.
The NSCA recognized Pauletto with the award for his numerous contributions to the strength and conditioning profession and his dedication to the association. Pauletto has more than 25 years of service with the NSCA, serving as a board member, state director and president, as well as on various committees. In 1986, he received the National Strength Coach of the Year award from the association.
Pauletto attributes his decision to become a strength and conditioning coach to the NSCA. Through the association, he learned about the profession and earned credentials as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) the first year the NSCA offered it.
